A student standing on top of a 170-m high building threw a stone upward with an initial velocity of 50 m/s. What is the vertical location of the stone in meters, with respect to the top of the building, after 10.0 seconds? (hint: pay attention to the sign here!)

Answers

Answer 1

The vertical location of the stone in meters, with respect to the top of the building is 10 m

We'll begin by obtaining the velocity of the stone after 10 s. This is can be obtained as follow:

Initial velocity (u) = 50 m/sTime (t) = 10 sAcceleration due to gravity (g) = 9.8 m/s²Final velocity (v) =?

v = u - gt (Since the stone is going against gravity)

v = 50 - (9.8 × 10)

v = 50 - 98

v = -48 m/s

How to determine the location (i.e height)

Now, we can obtain the location (i.e height) of the stone as follow:

Initial velocity (u) = 50 m/sFinal velocity (v) = -48 m/s Acceleration due to gravity (g) = 9.8 m/s²Height (h) =?

v² = u² - 2gh (since the ball is going against gravity)

(-48)² = 50² - (2 × 9.8 × h)

2304 = 2500 - 19.6h

Collect like terms

2304 - 2500 = -19.6h

-196 = -19.6h

Divide both side by -19.6

h = -196 / -19.6

h = 10 m

Thus, the stone is 10 m high from the top of the building

The displacement of Hermione is zero since the initial point and the final point are the same.

Displacement is the smallest distance between two positions, i.e. the starting and finishing points.

Hermione follows a circular path and hence her motion is circular motion. We know that one cycle of a circular motion is the movement of an object from one point in the circle to the same location after completing a complete revolution. Since the initial point and the final point are the same, it is obvious that there is only one point between which a displacement must be considered, which turns out to be zero.

Furthermore, even though Hermione walks on the circle path eight times, her displacement is still zero because the displacement involved for the 'n' number of cycles of circular motion is also zero.

As a result, Hermione's displacement is zero because the initial and final points are the same no matter how many times she walks around the circular path.

Marissa's car accelerates at a rate Of 42.60 m/?. How long does it take
for Marissa's car to accelerate from a speed of 88.5 km/h to a speed of
96.5 km/h?

Answers

The correct answer is 0.0539 sec.

Since we are aware that a body's position changes over time, the concept of velocity is introduced. The vector quantity known as velocity is sometimes referred to as the rate of change of location. The body's velocity increases as it changes position more quickly over time.

The acceleration of the car is 42.60 m/s^2.

Initial speed u = 88.5 km/h = 24.5 m/s

final speed v = 96.5 km/h =  26.8 m/s

The amount of time the car needs to travel from a speed of 24.5 m/s to a speed of 26.8 m/s must be determined. An object's acceleration is determined by:

t = v-u/a

t = (26.8 - 24.5) / 42.6

t = 0.0539 sec

Therefore, it takes the car 0.0539 seconds to increase from a speed of 24.5 m/s to a speed of 26.8 m/s. This is the necessary remedy as a result.

An airplane in flight is subject to an air resistance force proportional to the square of its speed v. But there is an additional resistive force because the airplane has wings. Air flowing over the wings is pushed down and slightly forward, so from Newton's third law the air exerts a force on the wings and airplane that is up and slightly backward (Figure 1). The upward force is the lift force that keeps the airplane aloft, and the backward force is called induced drag. At flying speeds, induced drag is inversely proportional to v2, so that the total air resistance force can be expressed by Fair=αv2+β/v2, where α and β are positive constants that depend on the shape and size of the airplane and the density of the air. To simulate a Cessna 150, a small single-engine airplane, use α = 0.270 N⋅s2/m2 and β = 3.45×105 N⋅m2/s2 . In steady flight, the engine must provide a forward force that exactly balances the air resistance force.

Calculate the speed at which this airplane will have the maximum range (that is, travel the greatest distance) for a given quantity of fuel. Hint: Think what condition the resistance force must satisfy in order to yield the maximum range.

The amount of the change in an object's position over time or the size of the change per unit of time, which is referred to as speed, is a scalar number in kinematics and common usage.

Calculate the speed at which this airplane will have the maximum range (that is, travel the greatest distance) for a given quantity of fuel.

When an airplane is in flight, air resistance exerts a force proportional to the square of the speed V. However, the fact that the airplane has wings adds another resisting force. According to Newton's third law, air flowing over the wings is pushed down and slightly forward, which results in the air exerting an upward and somewhat backward force on the wings and airplane (Figure 1). The lift force that holds the airplane in the air is upward, while induced drag is the backward force. The total air resistance force can be stated as F_air = A.V? +B/V2 since induced drag is inversely proportional to V2 at flying speeds, and a and B are positive constants that depend on the size and shape of the object, where A and B are constants that depend on the size, shape, and weight of the aircraft as well as the air's density. Use A = 0.260 N.s?/m2 and B = 3.49x105 N.mo/s2 to model the little single-engine Cessna 150. The engine must deliver a forward force during steady flight that precisely balances the force of air resistance.

Question 1 options:

Both vectors are east

C. The correct option "velocity is east and acceleration is west".

What is negative velocity?

A negative velocity occurs when an object moves in the negative direction.

Example of negative velocity;

If a car is moving away from you (reference point) then the velocity is positive.

If a car is coming towards you (reference point) then the same vector reverses direction and hence the velocity is negative.

What is negative acceleration?

If the object is slowing down then its acceleration vector is directed in the opposite direction as its motion. Thus, the acceleration of the object will be negative.

Thus, since the bicyclist is moving eastward, the velocity is east, also since he is slowing down the acceleration is west. The correct option "Velocity is east and acceleration is west".

The magnitude of the acceleration is 1.1 m/s^2.

What is the magnitude of the acceleration?

Let us recall that the time that is taken to go up and to come down the ramp has been given as 1.95 s. It is also clear that the time that is taken to go up and to come down the ramp must be the same. This now means that if we consider the downward motion of the ball, the time taken = 1.95 s/2 = 0.975 s

A population that is industrialized is experiencing a drop in death rates. However, the birthrate remains high. Could it be undergoing the demographic transition? Explain.

Answers

a consistent drop in the death rate.

As nations grow more industrialized, the demographic transition depicts the change from high birth (fertility) and death rates to low birth (fertility) and death rates. Due to low levels of family planning and poor sanitation and medical care, fertility rates are high during the pre-industrial period of the demographic transition, and death rates are also high. During this time, the population does not increase. The death rate declines during the subsequent stage, known as the transitional period, as a result of advancements in sanitation and medical treatment, but fertility rates continue to be high. Currently, there are more births than deaths, which causes the population to grow quite quickly.
