Ian Mortimer, the author of "The Time Traveler's Guide to Elizabethan England," discusses how food is kept in the chapter. Additionally, he states clearly that "wine and meat must be kept away."

In his final statement, he mentions how the lengthy winter season was thought to generate less food than usual: "Most yeomen would have vats and presses for making cheeses—a crucial supply of protein in the long winter season."

There are three different ways to store food: dry storage, refrigerated storage, and frozen food storage. In other words, Baba Abdalla is so greedy that he cannot "see" anything else but the importance of gold and treasures. He does not understand that life is not about being wealthy.

Which of the following sentences contains an idiom?

A)Brian was excited for his work party on Friday night.
B)The courtroom grew as silent as a library when the defendant walked in.
C)We didn't tell Marcella about Kim's surprise party because we were sure she'd let the cat out of the bag and tell Kim about it.
D)None of the choices are correct.

Answers

Answer:

C)We didn't tell Marcella about Kim's surprise party because we were sure she'd let the cat out of the bag and tell Kim about it.

Explanation:

Letting the cat out of the bag means exposing a secret. This is to say Marcella would inform Kim about the surprise party the others are planning for her (Kim).

The sentence that contains an idiom would be:

We didn’t tell Marcella about Kim’s surprise party because we were sure she’d let the cat out of the bat and tell Kim about it.

An idiom is a form of figurative language in which exaggerated or non literal word choices are used to emphasize a point. They are not meant to be taken seriously.

With that in mind, we can eliminate A and D because A does not have any figurative language, and D is simply incorrect because there is a correct option.

We also can eliminate B because an idiom and a simile are two different subjects, although they both are under the category of figurative language. Similes are sentences or phrases that connect two unrelated instances by using the words “like” or “as.” In answer B, the word “as” is used connect the courtroom’s silence to that of a library.

Answer C is correct because the phrase “let the cat out of the bag” is a discrete and implicit way of saying that something would spoil a secret. This is the case in this option.

Answer C contains an idiom.

In the short story "The Monkey's Paw," the White family has a visitor, a sergeant-major who has a mummified monkey's paw. Neptune is 4.5 x 10^10 km from the sun. How much further is Neptune from the sun than Mercury? aMultiply the distances: (5.8 x 10^7) x (4.5 x 10^10) = (5.8 x 4.5) x (10^17) = 26.1 x 10^17 = 2.61 x 10^16 bDivide the distances: (4.5 x 10^10) / (5.8 x 10^7) = .76 x 10^3 = 7.6 x 10^2 cAdd the distances together: (5.8 x 10^7) + (4.5 x 10^10) = 10.3 x 10^17 = 1.03 x 10^18 km dSubtract the distances by getting the same power of 10: (4.5 x 10^10) - (5.8 x 10^7) = (4.5 x 10^10) - (.0058 x 10^10) = 44.99 x 10^10 km Where does protein production start and finish 50pts to whoever can solve this correctly
