Answer 1

Answer:

The answer is below

Step-by-step explanation:

a) To complete the table of values for y = 3x - 1, we substitute the value of x into the equation and find y.

For x = -2, y = 3(-2) - 1 = -7; For x = -1, y = 3(-1) - 1 = -4

For x = 0, y = 3(0) - 1 = -1;    For x = 1, y = 3(1) - 1 = 2

For x = 2, y = 3(2) - 1 = 5;    For x = 3, y = 3(3) - 1 = 8

x:    -2      -1        0        1         2       3

y:    -7      -4       -1        2         5      8

b) The graph is drawn using geogebra online graphing calculator.

c) From the graph, When x = 2.5, y = 6.5

Distributionally robust stochastic programs with side information based on trimmings

This is a research paper whose authors are Adrián Esteban-Pérez and Juan M. Morales.

Abstract:

We look at stochastic programmes that are conditional on some covariate information, where the only knowledge of the possible relationship between the unknown parameters and the covariates is a limited data sample of their joint distribution. We build a data-driven Distributionally Robust Optimization (DRO) framework to hedge the decision against the inherent error in the process of inferring conditional information from limited joint data by leveraging the close relationship between the notion of trimmings of a probability measure and the partial mass transportation problem.We demonstrate that our technique is computationally as tractable as the usual (no side information) Wasserstein-metric-based DRO and provides performance guarantees. Furthermore, our DRO framework may be easily applied to data-driven decision-making issues involving tainted samples. Finally, using a single-item newsvendor problem and a portfolio allocation problem with side information, the theoretical findings are presented.

Conclusions:

We used the relationship between probability reductions and partial mass transit in this study to give a straightforward, yet powerful and creative technique to expand the usual Wasserstein-metric-based DRO to the situation of conditional stochastic programming. In the process of inferring the conditional probability measure of the random parameters from a limited sample drawn from the genuine joint data-generating distribution, our technique generates judgments that are distributionally resilient to uncertainty. In a series of numerical tests based on the single-item newsvendor issue and a portfolio allocation problem, we proved that our strategy achieves much higher out-of-sample performance than several current options. We backed up these actual findings with theoretical analysis, demonstrating that our strategy had appealing performance guarantees.

Which diagram represents the following sets?
P=|xis an integer divisible by 2}: Q= (x|xis an odd integer; R =x|xis an integer divisible by 3}

Answers

Answer:

The answer is below

Step-by-step explanation:

An integer is a whole number which is either positive, negative or zero.

Given that:

P=(x | x is an integer divisible by 2}. An integer divisible by 2 can be represented by 2k, where k is an integer, hence:

P = (..., -6, -4, -2, 0, 2, 4, 6, ...)

Q= (x | x is an odd integer). An odd integer can be represented by 2k + 1, where k is an integer, hence:

Q = (..., -5, -3, -1, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 ...)

R = (x | x is an integer divisible by 3). An integer divisible by 3 can be represented by 3k, where k is an integer, hence:

R = (..., -12, -9, -6, -3, 0, 3, 6, 9, ...)

From the above we can see that Q and P are disjoint set, that is P ∩ Q = 0

But P and R have common numbers (..., -6, 0, 6, 12,...) i.e. P ∩ R ≠ 0

Also Q and R have common numbers (..., -3, 3, 9,...) i.e. Q ∩ R ≠ 0

if neptunes distance from the sun is about 4.5 billion and venus distance is 2x10 to the power of 8 km how many times farther is neptune from the sun than venus?
using scientific notation

Answers

If Neptune's distance from the sun is about 4.5 billion km and Venus distance is 2×[tex]10^{8}[/tex] km, then its 22.5 times farther is Neptune from the sun than Venus.

The Neptune's distance from sun = 4.5 billion km

we know

1 billion = [tex]10^{9}[/tex]

The Venus's distance from sun = 2×[tex]10^{8}[/tex] km

How many times farther is Neptune from the sun than Venus = The Neptune's distance from sun / The Venus's distance from sun

Substitute the values in the equation

= (4.5×[tex]10^{9}[/tex])÷(2×[tex]10^{8}[/tex])

= 22.5

Hence, If Neptune's distance from the sun is about 4.5 billion km and Venus distance is 2×[tex]10^{8}[/tex] km, then its 22.5 times farther is Neptune from the sun than Venus.

Susan and bonnie are shopping for school clothes. Susan has $50 and a coupon for a $10 discount at a clothing store where each shirt cost $12. The equations used to model the problem are listed below .Solve each equation algebraically ,justify your steps, and determine who is correct.

Answers

Answer:

Bonnie is correct

Step-by-step explanation: from the above question:

Susan and bonnie are shopping for school clothes.

Susan has $50 and a coupon for a $10 discount at a clothing store where each shirt cost $12.

Susan thinks that she can buy three shirts, but bonnie says Susan can by five shirts.

Hence:

Discount = $10, Discounted price always carries the minus(-) sign

The cost of 1 shirt = $12

Let the number of shirts she can buy = x

Hence our Equation =

$12 × x - $10 = $50

12x = $50 + 10

12x = $60

x = $60/12

x = 5 shirts

Therefore, Bonnie is correct because she can only buy 5 shirts

Solve for x 2.3x-3.2+1.6x=.7x

Answers

Answer:

x=1

Step-by-step explanation:

Answer:

x = 1

Step-by-step explanation:

Step 1: Simplify both sides of the equation.

2.3x −3.2 + 1.6x = 0.7x

2.3x + − 3.2 + 1.6x = 0.7x

(2.3x + 1.6x) + (−3.2 )= 0.7x (Combine Like Terms)

3.9x + −3.2 = 0.7x

3.9x − 3.2 = 0.7x

Step 2: Subtract 0.7x from both sides.

3.9x − 3.2 − 0.7x = 0.7x − 0.7x

3.2x − 3.2 = 0

Step 3: Add 3.2 to both sides.

3.2x − 3.2 + 3.2 = 0 + 3.2

3.2x = 3.2

Step 4: Divide both sides by 3.2.

x = 1

with regard to a regression-based forecast, the standard error of the estimate gives a measure of part 2 a. the time required to derive the forecast equation. b. the time period for which the forecast is valid. c. the variability around the regression line. d. the maximum error of the forecast.

Answers

The standard error of the estimate gives a measure of the variability around the regression line.

A regression line represents the relationship between an independent and a dependent variable in a statistical study. In this the standard error of the estimate represents the variation from the theoretical value which is on the regression line. So it gives the measure of the variability around the regression line. It is measured from the distance between the values on the regression line and the value of the estimate.

When the standard error is zero, the study is said to be perfect( which is rare in real cases). So a range of error of (0.8-0.9) is considered as acceptable. So to make the estimate precise, standard error should be the minimum.
