Answers

Answer 1

The expression that best represents the cost of shirts plus shipping is 20b + 5.

What is the expression that represents the cost of shirts plus shipping?

An expression is a statement that is made up of at least two numbers or variables and at least one mathematical operation. An expression usually does not have an equal to sign.

The first step is to determine the cost of a shirt and the cost of shipping.

a + b = 25 equation 1

a + 2b = 45 equation 2

Where:

a = cost of shipping

Subtract equation 1 from equation 2

b = 20

a = 25 - 20

a = 5

Thus, the cost of one shirt is 20. The cost of shipping is 5. The cost of shirts increases with the number of shirts bought while the cost of shipping remains constant.

The expression is: 20b + 5

Distance =

Answers

The equation that represents the distance, d, between the friends after t hours is d = √(3250t²)

Calculating distance

From the question, we are to write an equation for the distance between the friends after t hours

From the given information,

"One heads North at 45 miles per hour, while the other heads East at 35 miles per hour"

First, we will calculate the distance each of them has traveled after t hours

Using the formula,

Distance = Speed × Time

Distance covered by the friend that heads North is

Distance = 45 × t

Distance = 45t

Distance covered by the friend that heads East is

Distance = 35 × t

Distance = 35t

Now, for the distance, d, between the two friends after t hours

Using the Pythagorean theorem, we can write that

d² = (45t)² + (35t)²

d² = 2025t² + 1225t²

d² = 3250t²

d = √(3250t²)

An investment of $34,000 was made by a business club. The investment was split into three parts and lasted for one year. The first part of the investment earned 8% interest, the second 6%, and the third
9%. Total interest from the investments was $2700. The interest from the first investment was 4 times the interest from the second. Find the amounts of the three parts of the investment.

Answers

The amounts of the three parts of the investment are $6000, $10000, and $18000.

How to calculate the values?

The total amount invested = $34000

We know that the amount was split into three parts, let the parts be x, y, z

then, x + y + z = 34000 //Equation 1

interest of any part after a year = the amount of the part times it's interest

interest of first part after a year = x* 0.08 // 8% = 8 / 100 = 0.08

interest of second part after a year = y * 0.06

interest of third part after a year = z * 0.09

we know that the total interest earned by the total investment = $2700

i.e, 0.08x + 0.06y + 0.09z = 2700 // Equation 2

Guven that interest from the first investment was 4 times the interest from the second.

i.e, 0.08x = 4 * 0.06y

= x = 3y // substituting this relation in the above eauations

x + y + z = 34000 //Equation 1

3y + y + z = 34000

= 4y + z = 34000 //Equation 3

0.08x + 0.06y + 0.09z = 2700 // Equation 2

= 0.08(3y) + 0.06y + 0.09z = 2700

=0.3y + 0.09z = 2700 // simplyfying the equation by multiplying with 100

= 30y + 9z = 270000 // Equation 4

Solving 3 and 4 equations;

36y + 9z = 306000 //Equation 3 multiplied by 9 to make it simple to solve with equation 4

30y + 9z = 270000

6y = 36000

y = 36000 / 6 = 6000// second part of the investment

x = 3y = 3 * 6000 = 18000 // first part of the investment

z = 34000 - (x + y) // from equation 1

z = 34000 - 24000 = 10000 // third part of the investment.

Therefore, the amounts of the three parts of the investment are $6000, $10000, and $18000.

A small store sells spearmint tea at $3.15 an ounce and peppermint tea at $5.01 per ounce. The store owner decides to make a batch of 93 ounces of tea that mixes both kinds and sell the mixture for $3.80 an ounce. How many ounces of the two varieties of tea should be mixed to obtain the same revenue as selling them unmixed?

Answers

The no. of ounce of  spearmint tea is = 60.50 ounce

the no. of ounce of  peppermint tea is =  32.49 ounce

We have been given that -

Cost of  spearmint tea = $3.15

Cost of  peppermint tea = $5.01

Cost of the mixture =  $3.80

solution-

Let the quantity of spearmint tea =  x ounce

and the quantity of peppermint tea =  y ounce

1 ounce quantity contains  spearmint tea and peppermint tea =

(x+y=1) ......eq (1)

the cost

($3.15)x +($5.01)y =  $3.80

3.15x + 5.01y = 3.80......... eq(2)

multiply equation (1) with 3.15.

∴ 3.15x +3.15y =3.15

using alligation..

Alligation: It is the rule that enables us to find the ratio in which two or more ingredients at the given price must be mixed to produce a mixture of the desired price.

substract equation (1) and equation (2)

(3.15x + 5.01y = 3.80) -(3.15x +3.15y =3.15)

After solve the equations we get

1.86y = o.65

   y = 0.65/1.86

  y = 0.349462... per ounce

put the value of y in equation (1)

x +y= 1

x = 1-y

x = 1-0.349462

x = 0.650538 per ounce

So the quantity of spearmint tea =  93 ×x per ounce

                                                    93 ×0.650538

                                                     60.50 ounce

and the quantity of peppermint tea = 93×y per ounce

                                                             93× 0.349462

                                                             32.49 ounce

hence, the no. of ounce of  spearmint tea is = 60.50 ounce

Yes this shape belong in a group of shapes having more than one perpendicular sides.

As listed before, the most common shapes with perpendicular sides are squares and rectangles. Another common shape with perpendicular sides is the right triangle. It is called a right triangle because it has a right angle for one of its three angles, this is where the perpendicular sides meet.

Perpendicular is a very common term used in geometry. It helps to define shapes, understand angles, and calculate missing angles. Perpendicular means two lines, or sides, that meet at a right angle. A right angle is the measurement of 90 degrees. Perpendicular sides are very common in real-life situations like houses and storage. Any box, with rectangles on each side, has perpendicular sides. Most houses have perpendicular walls because they meet at a right angle with each other. Let's discover how important perpendicular sides are in everyday life.

Perpendicular sides are at a 90-degree angle. Since they are so common, there is a special symbol to signify the sides are perpendicular without measuring. This looks like a box in the corner angle. Any angle with this box symbol is exactly 90 degrees, not a degree more or less. Below is an image that shows a rectangle that has four perpendicular sides, labeled with the boxes in each corner, signifying that each angle is a right angle or 90 degrees.

An equation is an expression that shows the relationship between two or more numbers and variables.

Let h represent the height of the shipping box. Hence:

h = (1/5) * length

Length = 5h

h = (1/4) * width

Width = 4h

Volume of the box = height * width * length = h * 5h * 4h

Forman1911THE MATCHThere never was a time when the world was without fire, but there was a time when men did not know how to kindle fire; and after they learned how to kindle one, it was a long, long time before they learned how to kindle one easily. In these days we can kindle a fire without any trouble, because we can easily get a match; but we must remember that the match is one of the most wonderful things in the world, and that it took men thousands of years to learn how to make one. Let us learn the history of this familiar little object, the match.Fire was first given to man by nature itself. When a forest is set on fire by cinders from a neighboring volcano, or when a tree is set ablaze by a thunderbolt, we may say that nature strikes a match. In the early history of the world, nature had to kindle all the fires, for man by his own effort was unable to produce a spark. The first method, then, of getting fire for use was to light sticks of wood at a flame kindled by nature-by a volcano, perhaps, or by a stroke of lightning. These firebrands were carried to the home and used in kindling the fires there.The fire secured in this way was carefully guarded and was kept burning as long as possible. But the flame, however faithfully watched would sometimes be extinguished. A sudden gust of wind or a sudden shower would put it out. Then a new firebrand would have to be secured, and this often meant a long journey and a deal of trouble.In 1827, John Walker, a druggist in a small English town, tipped a splint with sulphur, chlorate of potash, and sulphid of antimony, and rubbed it on sandpaper, and it burst into flame. The druggist had discovered the first friction-chemical match, the kind we use to-day. It is called friction-chemical because it is made by mixing certain chemicals together and rubbing them. Although Walker's match did not require the bottle of acid, nevertheless it was not a good one. It could be lighted only by hard rubbing, and it sputtered and threw fire in all directions. In a few years, however, phosphorus was substituted on the tip for antimony, and the change worked wonders. The match could now be lighted with very little rubbing, and it was no longer necessary to have sandpaper upon which to rub it. It would ignite when rubbed on any dry surface, and there was no longer any sputtering. This was the phosphorus match, the match with which we are so familiar.What issue made a match, or other device for starting a fire, necessary? (5 points)O Fire was hard to transport.
