Why was it a problem when colonist settled on powhatan land

Answers

Answer 1

Hi!

Colonist settlements on Powhatan land caused many, many, MANY problems.

The first one is the most obvious-- the colonists were taking Powhatan land, which none of the Powhatans were happy about-- thus disputes over land began to break out. The Powhatan Chief attacked the colonists because he realized that the colonists wanted complete control over the land. The colonists, in return, threatened to destroy all of the Native Americans. The colonists had an edge in this point-- they had guns, whereas the Powhatans did not.

Land disputes and wars were only the beginning-- one of the greatest killers of Native Americans was the disease that the colonists brought over, like syphilis. These diseases killed a vast majority of the Native American population.

You have recently bought four tickets for $15 each to a professional baseball game. You would have been willing to pay $25 for a ticket, but probably would have bought fewer tickets if that were the case. Calculate your total consumer surplus as area.

Answers

Answer:

$80

Explanation:

Step one:

What is consumer surplus area?

"Consumer Surplus reflects the difference between what a consumer is willing and able to pay for a product, and what the consumer actually ends up paying.

"

The area of surplus is calculated using the formula for the area of the bounded triangle.

Area of surplus =1/2 b*h

where b= the quantity

           h= consumer surplus

Step two:

given data

the quantity of tickets = 4

b=Q-O------------ (from the chart attached)

cost per tieckt= $15

Total cost of 4 tickets= 15*4= $60

the actual price is $60

Since you are willing to pay $25 per ticket

the total amount you are willing to  pay is = 25*4= $100

Consumer surplus = y-p------------ (from the chart attached)

Consumer surplus = $100 – $60

Consumer surplus = $40

Area of surplus = 1/2 x (4) x40 = $80

In your opinion, what was the biggest source of conflict between the United States and tribes living on the Great Plains before and during the Plains Wars? What eventually brought an end to the Plains Wars? Explain your answer in 75 to 100 words.

Answers

Answer:

Vast land

Explanation:

The great plains were the region of Texas, Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, and Oklahoma. In the 1840s, settlers moved west to the Great Plains as they were looking for gold and land.

Settlers were not the only inhabitant in the Great Plains but also had many Indians tribes. The government tried to get their land and sell it to settlers. Many of the Indians were hunters, not farmers. They relied on nature for their survival. Buffalo lived on the Great Plains, and Indians hunted them for food and other uses.

The destruction of Buffalo herds was the trainloads which allowed white men who shoot bison in the Plains. Bison killed as the government gave the authorization to shoot to clear land for farming and to make Native Indians declined. Native Indians depended on the bison for their fur, skin, meat, and fur.

The Sand Creek Massacre, the Battle of wounded Knee, and Battle of the Little Bighorn were some of the famous battles. The defeat of the Indians brought an end of the conflict with sending them to live in the reservations.

Answer:

The movement of white settlers to the West was a big source of conflict between the United States and the tribes of the Great Plains. The government moved the tribes onto the reservations to make room for US settlement. The tribes’ way of life, including hunting bison across the Great Plains, conflicted with expanding settlement.

In the end, the Native Americans on the Great Plains could no longer find enough food to survive. The bison they hunted disappeared as more people hunted the animals for sport. Though the tribes tried to fight back, US troops didn’t give up their campaign to move Native Americans onto reservations in Indian Territory.

Which three parts of this excerpt from Edgar Allan Poe's "The Masque of the Red Death" highlight the suggestion that the powerful and wealthy in the story are insensitive toward the outbreak of the disease and those who are suffering? The "Red Death" had long devastated the country. No pestilence had ever been so fatal, or so hideous. Blood was its Avatar and its sealthe redness and the horror of blood. There were sharp pains, and sudden dizziness, and then profuse bleeding at the pores, with dissolution. (The scarlet stains upon the body and especially upon the face of the victim, were the pest ban which shut him out from the aid and from the sympathy of his fellow-men.) And the whole seizure, progress and termination of the disease, were the incidents of half an hour. (But the Prince Prospero was happy and dauntless and sagacious. When his dominions were half depopulated, he summoned to his presence a thousand hale and light-hearted friends from among the knights and dames of his court, and with these retired to the deep seclusion of one of his castellated abbeys.) This was an extensive and magnificent structure, the creation of the prince's own eccentric yet august taste. A strong and lofty wall girdled it in. (This wall had gates of iron. The courtiers, having entered, brought furnaces and massy hammers and welded the bolts.) They resolved to leave means neither of ingress nor egress to the sudden impulses of despair or of frenzy from within. The abbey was amply provisioned. With such precautions the courtiers might bid defiance to contagion. (The external world could take care of itself. In the meantime it was folly to grieve, or to think.
