It is the most memorable weekend yet. We had decided three weeks earlier to visit the most exclusive park in Winnipeg. I couldn't wait because, it was said to be rife with rich greenery and and very diverse ecosystem.
One of it's features is mile long bridge over a river that was full of hippos and crocodiles.
We arrived at about 7am, parked just at the entrance, carried our backpacks and hiked inwards into the reserve.
James has always been known for his very eccentric nature. We had all gotten onto the bridge and it was remaining just the two of us. With about a few steps to go, James started jumping up and down the rope bridge.
Terrified, I started screaming, asking him to stop. By the third jump, the ropes snapped and I dropped 10 feet into the river.
Luckily the current wasn't very strong. However, the next thing that happened sent my spirit away from my body. As soon as I hit the water, less that 15 seconds later, a large hippo with jaws a huge as the buckets of a construction excavator made a grab at me.
I was dead. I didn't feel any pain so I thought I was definitely dead. Moments later, I realized that I got my backpack which was quite heavy and full. Then it headed towards land away from competition.
When I woke up, (for I had fainted from fright) I learnt that the park guide had seeing what happened dashed very quickly and proactively towards the part where the hippo was headed. The hippo seeing the guides guns and hearing gun shots dropped me and decided to have another kind of breakfast, at it dived back into the river.
