each question and the accompanying sente verb or the object that answers the question. M 1. Which is the verb phrase? At school Andy had read about tomato plant: b d a 2. Which is the linking verb? Andy was busy in his garden. b d с

Answers

Answer:

1. The verb phrase is: had read

2. The linking verb is: was

Explanation:

A "verb phrase" is a combination of a "helping verb" plus a "main verb."

Helping verbs or auxiliary verbs that help the verb (main) to express its mood, tense and voice. There are three types of helping verbs and these are: To Be, To Have and To Do.

"Had" is an example of a "To Have" helping verb. It is combined with read, which is the main verb in the sentence. Therefore, the verb phrase in the first sentence is "had read."

Linking verbs are verbs that connect a subject to a predicate noun/predicate adjective. Examples of linking verbs are: am, is, are , was, were, being and been.

This clearly shows that the linking verb for the second sentence above is "was." It describes Andy as being busy.

Fall of the House of Usher, excerpt
By Edgar Allan Poe
Upon my entrance, Usher rose from a sofa on which he had been lying at full length, and greeted me with a
vivacious warmth which had much in it, I at first thought, of an overdone cordiality-of
the constrained effort of
the ennuyél man of the world. A glance, however, at his countenance convinced me of his perfect sincerity. We
sat down; and for some moments, while he spoke not, I gazed upon him with a feeling half of pity, half of awe.
Surely, man had never before so terribly altered, in so brief a period, as had Roderick Usher! It was with difficulty
that I could bring myself to admit the identity of the wan being before me with the companion of my early
boyhood. Yet the character of his face had been at all times remarkable. A cadaverousness of complexion; an
eye large, liquid, and luminous beyond comparison; lips somewhat thin and very pallid, but of a surpassingly
beautiful curve; a nose of a delicate Hebrew model, but with a breadth of nostril unusual in similar formations; a
finely moulded chin, speaking, in its want of prominence, of a want of moral energy; hair of a more than web-like
softness and tenuity; - these features, with an inordinate expansion above the regions of the temple, made up
altogether a countenance not easily to be forgotten. And now in the mere exaggeration of the prevailing
character of these features, and of the expression they were wont to convey, lay so much of change that I
doubted to whom I spoke. The now ghastly pallor of the skin, and the now miraculous lustre of the eye, above
all things startled and even awed me. The silken hair, too, had been suffered to grow all unheeded, and as, in its
wild gossamer texture, it floated rather than fell about the face, I could not, even with effort, connect its
Arabesque expression with any idea of simple humanity.

What does the narrator mean by I doubted to whom I spoke in this paragraph?
He has never met this person before.
O He knows this is an imposter.
O He has decided to leave.
O He thinks his friend has changed a lot.

Answers

Answer:

O He thinks his friend has changed a lot.

Explanation:

Edgar Allen Poe's short story "The Fall of the House of Usher" revolves around the story of how the unnamed narrator had been invited to stay at his friend's home and the unnatural events that he came upon during that stay. This gothic story deals with the themes of good, madness, the supernatural, and the 'evils' that seem to penetrate through the 'house' of Usher.

As given in the passage from the story, the narrator reveals that the man who had met him on his arrival seemed so different that he barely remembered it was his friend Roderick Usher, the very same man who had invited him. So, when he said "I doubted to whom I spoke", the narrator meant that Roderick had changed so much that he even doubted if he knows the man he was talking to.

Thus, the correct answer is the fourth option.

What the narrator meant by "I doubted to whom I spoke" in this paragraph is this:  He thinks his friend has changed a lot.

In this excerpt from the passage, we see that the narrator described the features of his friend whom he had just met in depth.

He was very worried about his changed features. In fact, his friend had changed so much that he doubted if he was actually the one that he was having a conversation with.

This is the meaning of the phrase, "I doubted to whom I spoke."

Write an essay about your corona experience (400 words)

Answers

Answer:

I'm now at home every day and it really is affecting me socially. Not being able to speak to friends and see people I see on a regular basis is hard for me. Also, now that school is closed for the rest of the year it has really had an effect on my school life. I am not used to being at home all the time and working on the computer. I'm usually in a classroom surrounded by my peers. However, I am human so I will learn to adapt, but for now it is hard. It has affected me personally in the social and educational aspect, but I know around the city of Detroit it's affecting others as well. In Detroit, which is one of the cities around the country hit hard by the virus, the pandemic has also affected the youth. Youth are now forced to stay home instead of going to school and spending time with friends. Most kids need to be outside and with people to release their energy and socialize. Now this cannot happen, because the virus has affected us so much. One thing we also see happening is food insecurities and social distancing. Due to what is happening in the world, people are very much afraid and cautious about food supply and interactions with people. People are afraid and are told to stay inside, so we stock up supplies that will last them about a month. Usually people get stuff that we will last them about two weeks, but now we need to stay home as much as we can. With social distancing, we now separate ourselves from other parts of society. This has made me feel very much disconnected from my friends. Humans are made to be out and about and socialize with beings on Earth. These unfortunate events have led many people to be disconnected from society. This has allowed my mind to go to the dark side, where my fears come out. My main fear is “How long will my life be on pause?” I’m afraid of how long I will be stuck in the house and can’t see my friends. Will it be a couple more weeks or will it be a couple months?

p.s this is random but i still agree with this essay

Explanation:

Corona has kept me at home more than I would have liked to. Naturally, I am a stay-at-home type of person, but plenty of times throughout the year I have wanted to go out in the city and hang out with friends and family. I know that I can't do these things though because it puts their safety, and mine, at risk of exposure. I've come to terms with this reality and it doesn't bother me as much anymore.
One difficult thing though is virtual learning. At first, I thought not being able to go to school would be a positive thing. Little did I know, virtual learning only made things slightly worse. Teachers are not being very lenient with students as they want students to be with them. I've failed classes worse than ever, lost touch with friends, but on the flip side, my mental health has never been better. School has been one of the reasons my mental health suffered throughout the past 4-5 years. It made me realize a lot about myself, as all I can do at home is watch Netflix or be alone with my thoughts.
In light of Corona, it has shown how people in my country, America, have taken the culture of individualism to an extreme. No one has a sense of community or “helping out the neighbor”. If it doesn't affect you and your loved ones, apparently no one else cares. People won't listen to simple orders of staying at home unless absolutely necessary and to wear a mask if you do go out. Wearing a mask protects people from you, so that you don't spread bodily fluids like saliva, which Corona spreads through, not the other way around.
In conclusion, it's been one long ride with Corona. With vaccines planning to be distributed amongst the world and places like school starting to open back up, let's see what 2021 has in store for us.

How did Frederick Douglass persuade?

Several of these rhetorical devices are used by Douglass in his lectures, including addressing and characterizing the opposition without criticizing it, advancing his ideas while keeping an eye on his audience, and making equal mention of both movements to show how they are related.

Frederick Douglass attempted to strengthen Northern white support for abolition in addition to trying to convince people that slavery was evil.

He used parallelism, ethos, and tone to show why slavery should be abolished. These rhetorical techniques help Frederick Douglass make a compelling case against slavery. His tone was the most potent tool for emphasizing the harshness of slavery.

Evaluate the scene where Della and Jim exchange gifts. What effect does this situation have on the story? Which stage of plot development would you consider this event to be in-rising action, climax, falling action, or resolution? Why?

Answers

Answer:

Before Della and Jim exchange gifts, the reader sees anxiety between them about the fact that Della cut her hair. When the characters exchange gifts, the reader and the characters see the situational irony of the moment. Both characters sacrificed something they deeply valued to buy something the other would value. Yet what the characters sell makes the gifts they receive useless. The exchange of the gifts is the climax because the story revolves around the purchase of these gifts and what they represent. The story is resolved when the characters realize that their presents are materially useless but symbolize the deep love they share.

This would be the climax of the story because we are anticipating the reactions of both of the lovers. The falling acting would be after this, when they accept each others sacrifice for each other and enjoy a Christmas meal together.

In The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle, changes happen to people, to places, and to things. To everything, in fact! We might conclude, then, that the novel wants us to see that change is a part of life. Some are good, some are bad, and some is ugly. The advice I would give to Charlotte Doyle might be like whatever you do, keep the dirk. You never know when you might need it. You can't trust anybody with anything. Don't wander around places you don't know. And I think Charlotte should make a decoy hiding spot, even if she says it's there it will be somewhere else. I would tell Charlotte that she needs to spend more time with Zachariah, talk about what they like, where they came from etc. Not just make assumptions stating if he was her friend or not in a day. I would tell Charlotte to not judge people by appearances. She kind of judged Captain Jaggery by the way he had his hold set up. I would tell her to go back to the brig with a candle. Obviously, people don't want her there, so there must be something worth checking out.

Think of the novels and short stories you’ve read in the past. Make a list of ways an author adds excitement or importance to a story. What qualities make a story engaging for you as a reader?

Answers

Well, I know that too formal of a writing style can confuse me, so I prefer a more casual tone to the story. I want to read a story and have it keep me on the edge of my seat, and excite me throughout the whole experience. Books to me do not always have to include a moral, or a lesson to them. Reading to me is a source of entertainment. For example, the novel I read in 4th grade, Gregor and the Curse of the Warmbloods, was so original and odd, yet thrilling and exciting. I like when a story gets to the action considerably quickly. I usually give up on a story if it takes too long to build up.

I hope this helps in some way, or at least inspires you. Have a great day!
