I need some help editing my short story, I don't want to completely paraphrase/change. I mostly need help on the introduction

A fortune cookie is a delicious sugary treat! It's usually eaten after the meal in an Asian restaurant and always paired with a positive message that gives the eater hope and happiness," explained Julie to her best friend, Sam, as they walked into Julie's favorite restaurant, The Cookie Box.

The Cookie Box was a family-owned restaurant with excellent food and even better fortune cookies than other restaurants in town. Julie had not been back since her birthday last August because she had a small argument with one of the servers. She was too embarrassed to return.

Sam and Julie took a seat and ordered their food. Once their food arrived, they immediately started to dig in. When they finished, Julie grabbed two fortune cookies. She handed one to Sam, then eagerly ripped hers open. It read, "Watch your back!"

"This has to be a prank," thought Julie. She looked around the busy restaurant, suspecting the culprit was in the room. Suddenly, in the corner of her eye, she saw something, or rather someone. It was Veronica, the same server from her birthday last August. The server that Julie was ashamed to admit, Julie was more than a little rude to her.

On the day of Julie's birthday, nothing seemed to be going her way. Three of her guests canceled on her, the new dress she had ordered had not arrived, and the only thing she thought couldn't go wrong went wrong. She was not able to keep her reservation at The Cookie Box. The waitress who attempted to resolve Julie's reservation issue appeared exhausted and was acting carelessly, so Julie reported her to the owner and left.

And now here she was again, staring loathingly toward her. Julie didn't think it was a coincidence that she got a warning fortune cookie the same day she saw that server.

"She did it," said Julie quietly.

"Huh, who did what?" Asked Sam.

"Oh! Nothing, sorry," replied Julie.

Julie had forgotten Sam was there and decided to apologize and tell him something suddenly came up, and it would be best if he left.

When Sam left, Julie decided to leave as well, she was halfway to her car when suddenly she heard someone calling out to her. It was Veronica. She was chasing after Julie. "You ruined my promotion!" yelled veronica with an angry tone. I felt horrible when I heard her say that. I didn't think that my bad day could ruin somebody's life.

I was so ashamed.

"I am so sorry," I muttered

Veronica scoffed and walked off. Julie didn't bother to stop her because there was no way Veronica would ever forgive her.

To edit your story, you may have Julie sound less formal at the introduction, watch out for punctuation and capitalization as well as point of view.

How to edit the story

After reading the story provided, we can point out the following topics as suggestions on how to edit and improve it:

The story is fun and interesting. The introduction does not require editing other than perhaps having Julie sound less formal.Watch out for punctuation and capitalization. For example, in "... Julie decided to leave as well, she was halfway to her car when suddenly she heard someone calling out to her," you should either place a period or a semicolon where the comma is.Be careful not to change the point of view halfway through. The story is told from a third-person perspective but, all of a sudden, it changes to the first person in "I felt horrible when I heard her say that. I didn't think that my bad day could ruin somebody's life." This is not advisable. You may change it back to the third person or edit it in way that those sentences are actually Julie's thoughts.

Overall, the story does not require much editing. It is creative and well-written.

Formal language refers to a way of phrasing a text by using language that is used in official settings. This is grammar that harmonizes with the rules of speaking and it is not often used in relaxed settings.

In the third sentence, the language used is informal. To express the thought that one character and event happens in the text, the writer used words that were not really conforming to literary terms.

To revise the text to its formal tone, the writer ought to use language that is common in literature. In this case, we can replace the person with a character and the important thing that happens with one main plot event. That way the sentence is revised to the formal form.

THE WORLD WITH A THOUSAND MOONSCHAPTER 1: Thrill CruiseBy Edmond HamiltonLance Kenniston felt the cold realization of failure as he came out of the building into the sharp chill of the Martian night. He stood for a moment, his lean, drawn face haggard in the light of the two hurtling moons. He looked hopelessly across the dark spaceport. It was a large one, for this ancient town of Syrtis was the main port of Mars. The forked light of the flying moons showed many ships docked on the tarmaca big liner, several freighters, a small, shining cruiser and other small craft. And for lack of one of those ships, his hopes were ruined!A squat, brawny figure in shapeless space-jacket came to Kenniston's side. It was Holk Or, the Jovian who had been waiting for him."What luck?" asked the Jovian in a rumbling whisper."It's hopeless," Kenniston answered heavily. "There isn't a small cruiser to be had at any price. The meteor-miners buy up all small ships here.""The devil!" muttered Holk Or, dismayed. "What are we going to do? Go on to Earth and get a cruiser there?""We can't do that," Kenniston answered. "You know we've got to get back to that asteroid within two weeks. We've got to get a ship here."Desperation made Kenniston's voice taut. His lean, hard face was bleak with knowledge of disastrous failure. The big Jovian scratched his head. In the shifting moonlight his battered green face expressed ignorant perplexity as he stared across the busy spaceport."That shiny little cruiser there would be just the thing," Holk Or muttered, looking at the gleaming, torpedo-shaped craft nearby. "It would hold all the stuff we've got to take; and with robot controls we two could run it.""We haven't a chance to get that craft," Kenniston told him. "I found out that it's under charter to a bunch of rich Earth youngsters who came out here in it for a pleasure cruise. A girl named Loring, heiress to Loring Radium, is the head of the party."The Jovian swore. "Just the ship we need, and a lot of spoiled kids are using it for thrill-hunting!"Kenniston had an idea. "It might be," he said slowly, "that they're tired of the cruise by this time and would sell us the craft. I think I'll go up to the Terra Hotel and see this Loring girl.""Sure, let's try it anyway," Holk Or agreed. With the Jovian clumping along beside him, Kenniston made his way from the spaceport across the ancient Martian city.Read the following line from the text:In the shifting moonlight his battered green face expressed ignorant perplexity as he stared across the busy spaceport.Which words remind the reader that this story is set in space?
